Announcement of the selected successful applicants in the Charta XXI Internship program
It was a great a surprise for the Charta XXI team that despite the short deadline we gave, our competition for the Charta XXI internship program was successful both in terms of the number of applications and the quality of the essays. We have received 57 applications, and most of them were over our expectations.
This is the reason why the selection procedure grew a bit longer than we expected. Originally our idea was to select one winner and reward him or her with a one-month internship in the office of Vice-president László Surján, in the European Parliament. Very quickly we had to realize, that this is impossible, since in this case we should have sent regret letters to many top quality applicants. Mr. Surján refused to do so. On the other hand there are budgetary limits that prevent Mr. Surján from inviting all successful applicants to work with him. He decided therefore to invite the most winners he can fund. Nevertheless we also decided to announce a kind of “silver medal” in the competition as well and invite some of the applicants to a few days long special visit to the European Parliament.
Some words about the statistics: It is noticeable that we received 36 applications from South East Europe, from the territory of ex-Yugoslavia. 2 of them from Croatia, one from Macedonia and 33 from Serbia, which is a considerably higher number than the 15 arriving from Hungary for example.
As already explained… if we could, we would announce 57 winners of the competition. Since this is impossible, hereby we whole-heartedly thank all applicants for their interest and for their excellent work. We sincerely acknowledge all the efforts they put in this application, and we are happy that we got in contact with each other via this possibility. We truly hope that this essay just enforced your commitment to work for the reconciliation between nations of our region, since this is the only way for a prosperous future for all of us.
Gold medal, i.e.: Internship in the European Parliament go to the following applicants:
Silver medal, i.e.: Visiting the European Parliament in Brussels go to the following applicants:

The remarkable quality of the essays calls for the publication of the thoughts of the authors on the website of the Reconciliation Movement. www.chartaxxi.eu
We have asked permission from them to do so, and hopefully soon you will be able to read the works here, on our website.
In the name of the Charta XXI team,
